Florida St. & Boston College Stay Unbeaten

Florida State and Boston College remained unbeaten in the first week of the 2009 season with wins Thursday in Florida.

The Seminoles (5-0) edged Auburn 8-7 in Tallahassee thanks to junior college transfer Mike Meschke's bases loaded game-ending single in the bottom of the 9th inning. Tyler Holt and Stuart Tapley were each 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs in the win over the Tigers (2-3).

Auburn commited three errors in the game that led to two unearned FSU runs.

The teams play again in Tallahassee Friday, then the 4-game series shifts to Auburn, AL for two more games.

In Ft. Myers, somewhat surprising Boston College (5-0) remained unbeaten as well with a 3-1 win over South Florida (1-3). BC senior righthander JB MacDonald retired the first ten and 15 of the first 17 Bulls batters he faced to earn his first win of 2009.

Boston College scored three runs in the first inning thanks to three hits and two HBP. Mike Belfiore's two-run double highlighted the inning.

All five BC wins this season have been in Florida against Florida teams (Stetson-4, USF-1).
