Minnesota Closes Out 5-4 Win Over WVU

Minnesota held on to its third lead of the game, defeating West Virginia 5-4 in action at Jack Russell Stadium (in St. Petersburg, Fla.). The winning sequence in the top of the 8th included junior catcher Kyle Knudson's leadoff single up the middle, junior OF Eric Decker's 1-out single to left and a walk by freshman 3B Kyle Geason – before 9-hole hitter AJ Petterson (freshman SS) coaxed the decisive bases-loaded walk.

Minnesota finished with a 13-10 hit edge, outslugging a WVU offense that rapped out 18 hits the previous night. Sophomore RHP Cullen Sexton was credited with the win, after facing 10 batters over the final 2.1 innings (H, BB, K). Junior RHP Billy Gross took the loss (3.2 IP, 2R, 7H, 2 BB, 4 K).

Top hitters in the game: Minnesota's Decker (3-for-5, R) and Derek McCallum(3-for-5, 2 RBI, SB), along with WVU's Joe Agreste (3-for-4, BB, RBI, R) and Jedd Gyorko (2-for-3, BB, RBI, HR).
