Stephenson Looks For More Good Home Cookin'

Wichita State plays its 2009 home opener tomorrow (Friday). Shockers head coach Gene Stephenson is 29-2 in home openers in his 31 years in Wichita. The two losses came in 1988 (a 13-11 set-back to New Mexico) and 2007 (an 11-10 defeat to Richmond) at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Stephenson has won 1,655 games in his 32 years as a head coach. His win total is second only to Texas head coach Augie Garrido's 1,677 wins in 41 years.

Stephenson has been to the College World Series seven times, most recently in 1996. His 1989 squad won the national championship.
