Michigan State Edges UConn in BE/Big 10 Opener

(Clearwater, FL) Michigan State gave first-year head coach Jake Boss, Jr. his first win as the Spartans beat Connecticut 4-2 in the Big East/Big Ten Baseball Challenge opener at Jack Russell Stadium.

Nolan Moody (1-0) gave MSU seven solid innings on the mound to earn the win. Moody gave-up just two earned runs on seven hits.

Centerfielder Brandon Eckerle was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs for Michigan State, while UConn's Matt Burnett was 4 for 4 in the loss.

Michigan State faces Seton Hall Saturday afternoon at 4pm at McKechnie Field in Brandenton. UConn plays Ohio State at 4pm Saturday at Jack Russell Stadium.
