The Minnesota Golden Gophers – an 11-2 loser against Seton Hall on Friday – have put their first three batters of the game on base, taking a 2-0 lead against freshman RHP Justin Ellis (Coatesville, PA).
Senior DH Matt Nohelty drew a leadoff walk, took second on a wild pitch and scored when switch-hitting sophomore RF Michael Kvasnicka pulled a double down the leftfield line. Another wild pitch from Morrison put the runner on third, and junior 2B Derek McCallum followed with an RBI single through the right side of the infield (winning the lefty-lefty matchup).
The quick start could be huge for the Gophers, as they take on a WVU team that racked up 14 runs on Friday vs. Indiana (Baseball America's pick to win the Big Ten this season).
