The latest "Diamond Insight" on our web site is with a pitcher most college baseball fans have probably never heard of. It's a kid named Shane Davis, a lefty from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY.
Buffalo isn't known as a baseball hotbed, and neither is Davis' hometown, Belmont, Ontario. He describes baseball in Buffalo and baseball in Canada as both "cold". Davis had no trouble warming-up in 2008 though. The redshirt sophomore (he had to sit out in 2007 due to academic issues that stemmed from credits in Canada) was 12-1 with a 2.42 ERA and ten complete games.
The Griffs were 41-13 last year, but two of their losses came in an early exit at the MAAC Tournament. Davis had his roughest start of the season there, giving-up seven earned runs in nine innings, but he still helped Canisius to a 16-7 win over Manhattan in its only tournament win. Throw out that start and Davis' ERA was 1.91.
