Virginia, Va. Tech Each Get Eighth Win Of '09

ACC rivals Virginia and Virginia Tech each registered their eighth win of the season on Saturday.

Virginia downed Fordham 7-3 in Charlottesville, VA to improve to 8-0. Andrew Carraway picked-up his second win of the season after giving-up four runs (three earned) in eight innings. The senior issued two walks with five strikeouts.

Freshman third baseman Steven Proscia paced the Cavs' 10-hit attack by going 3 for 5 with an RBI. Four other Cavs each had an RBI.

It was not a tidy game, as Virginia commited a season-high five errors, while Fordham (1-5) had three errors and walked nine batters.

Meanwhile, Virginia Tech improved to 8-1 after a 10-7 win over Bucknell (0-7) in Blacksburg, VA. Tech trailed by four runs going into the bottom of the seventh, but scored four runs in the home half of the inning to tie the game, and then added three in the eighth for the deciding runs.

The game started at 10 a.m. to try to avoid impending weather, but much of the game was still played in the rain.

Klint Reed (pictured above) and Ty Hohman each had two hits and two RBIs for the Hokies.
