West Virginia has tied its game with Minnesita, 3-3, as the game enters the 7th inning. The Mountaineers scored all their runs in the bottom of the 5th, thanks to a pair of singles through the infield, a double, a run-scoring passed ball and an RBI groundout.
Sophomore SS Jed Gyorko (a Morgantown native) started the rally by pulling a 1-out single through the right side, followed by a single up the middle from junior 2B Vince Belnome (Coatesville, PA). With both middle infielders aboard, lefthanded-hitting senior 1B Joe Agreste (Chesapeake, VA) came through with an RBI double into right field. Belnome then scored on a passed ball and Agreste scored another unearnred run, when sophomore catcher Tobias Streich grounded out to third base.
It should be noted that the initial blog post for this game incorrectly identified WVU junior LHP Stephen Morrison (who also hails from Coatesville, PA) as the starter. Morrison actually had relieved freshman RHP Justin Ellis, who left the game after facing only three batters (2R-2H-BB).
Another quick update to follow shortly, as the score now is 4-4 in the bottom of the 7th.
